From Zero to Electric Hero: The Rivian Automotive Story

J.R. Jaén  |  September 9, 2023

Who are the major stakeholders in Rivian Automotive? Founded by MIT graduate Robert Scaringe, Rivian is the realization of a clean and environmentally conscious automotive dream.

The company has transformed from a sportscar prototype project into a prominent player in the electric vehicle (EV) market. As a publicly traded entity, Rivian has garnered significant interest from institutional investors and industry giants like Ford and Amazon.

Amazon not only holds a substantial stake in Rivian but also collaborates with the company by utilizing its transport vehicles for logistical operations.

Rivian's Electric SUV and Pickup Truck Lineup: Rivian, though not a household name in the automotive world, has cultivated a devoted fanbase thanks to its outstanding EV offerings.

The current Rivian lineup features the R1T electric pickup truck, often compared favorably to the Tesla Cybertruck, and the R1S SUV, which competes with Tesla's Model X. Remarkably, these vehicles represent Rivian's initial foray into the EV market, showcasing their ability to outshine many established EV manufacturers. The R1T boasts exceptional off-road capabilities, while the R1S provides similar performance with family-friendly spaciousness.

Rivian's Future in EV Delivery: Rivian has earned recognition for its electric delivery vans designed for Amazon, securing a contract to manufacture 100,000 eco-friendly vehicles. The company faces the challenge of scaling production to meet this substantial demand.

While Rivian has already delivered over 1,000 EV vans to Amazon, fulfilling the full order will require considerable effort. Notably, Amazon's unique position as a partial owner of Rivian adds an intriguing dynamic to this partnership. Despite challenges posed by supply chain disruptions and the pandemic, Rivian's commitment to excellence shines through.

How do I look to play Riving this week?

I cannot think of a better sympathy play for investors than Rivian.
At least, in the USA this pick-up company is in a better position than Ford Motor Company and GM.

It's hard to see how Ford or GM make a comeback. One way or another I can see how Americans will miss the F-150 truck. Unless, Ford makes it happen, if they haven't by now not sure how things will change in the next 5 years.

I am working to make writing a habit.
Rather than spending all day long in "X" (formerly known as Twitter), it is time (I am 40 years old now) to develop another way and scene to communicate ideas.

Think that blogging never gets old and investors, traders, and content fanáticos need a new voice and fresh ideas to work on.

Until our next idea,

My sister went to Kansas State University, my grandmother worked as a babysitter in Austin, Texas, and my dad bailed on my mom back in '85. No fancy Harvard degree for me, but I stumbled upon a book by Larry Williams that kickstarted my obsession with Copper, E-mini SP500, and Gold futures. These days, I'm diving into the world of Jim Simons and honing a bunch of Surveillance Capitalism algorithms at the Market Surveillance Alliance. No frills, just the raw truth of my journey.
